Former alderman Tim Pierce tossing his hat into race for mayor of Long Beach
LONG BEACH, Miss. (WLOX) - Former alderman and Long Beach School District Board President Tim Pierce announced he’s throwing his hat into the race for mayor.
Coastal Daquiri Bar & Grill was filled with Tim Pierce’s supporters as he officially announced his candidacy for mayor of “The Friendly City.”
Pierce has been a Long Beach School District board member since 2005 and took on the role of alderman from 1993 until 2001. He was also the Chief of Planning Development at NASA’s Stennis Space Center.
If elected mayor, he says reconstruction of city property and supporting economic growth would be at the top of his agenda.
Pierce says, “The biggest issue that we have is probably the reconstruction of our harbor, knowing that that’s the front door to our community. I hear stories from multiple people that aren’t from around here that they come over the beautiful Bay St. Louis bridge, they pass through Pass Christian, and before they know it they’re in Gulfport. So, we’ve got to turn that around, we’ve got to refurbish our harbor, build our new pier. For the people that were here before Katrina, we used to have businesses up and down Jeff Davis and you can see it today that those businesses aren’t there. So, my primary mission as mayor of the city of Long Beach would be bringing economic growth to the city of Long Beach, smart growth to the city of Long Beach.”
Pierce says the Long Beach School District has always ranked well within the state, but there’s a need to improve teacher salaries due to competitive pay within the nearby coastal cities.
